Synopsis

At his Bayview/Hunters Point studio, metal-working artist John Ricker fires up a crucible and places several handguns into it, melting them. For 20 years Ricker has been melting weapons and making art out of the raw result. On this evening he has invited a group of friends, including Heath Maddox, who has donated a military-issue .45-caliber handgun that once belonged to his father, to be used in Ricker's latest creation: "Gun Coffin." Ricker heats the pistol in his forge until it is white-hot, then supervises as Maddox and another guest take turns pounding it flat on an anvil. Then Ricker welds the weapon onto his stylized coffin as a finishing touch.
