Synopsis

Very young children are shown learning to swim at La Petit Baleen in San Bruno Calif. They are happy and involved but the narrator notes that the American Academy of Pediatrics has published a warning that "children are not developmentally ready for formal swimming lessons until after their fourth birthday." La Petit Baleen instructor Terry Gherardi defends her program by noting the many social and physical benefits young children receive by participating. "We always teach our parents that 'never are you water-safe,'" she says. An enthusiasic parent, Karen Shea of San Francisco, remarks that her infant son not only loves the experience but also sleeps especially well after the lessons.
