Izzy the Poodle Makes the Rounds at UCSF

Synopsis

In an office at the Children's Hospital on the San Francisco campus of the University of California we meet "Izzy," a 15-lb. hypoallergenic, miniature poodle rescued by the SPCA from the streets of Fresno and now retrained to be a therapist and UCSF's first canine employee. Izzy's caretaker Jim O'Brien (who is also patient care manager) says that Izzy reminds the patients she meets while making her rounds "a little bit of home." Izzy's trainer, Francis Metcalf, walks her around to meet and play with patients as he describes the unique requirements of a hospital poodle therapist.
